Who is Rabbi Eliezer Ben-Porat?

Rabbi Eliezer Ben-Porat is the dean of both Ottawa Torah Institute Yeshiva High School and of Machon Sarah High School for girls. He has long been involved in halachic scholarship on a high level, writing for many Hebrew-language halacha journals and publishing a number of books of academic and halachic interest. He also serves as a "moreh tzedek", responding to practical halachic questions in all areas of Jewish law.

Rabbi Ben-Porat was an Israeli-born student of the yeshiva of Kfar Chassidim (where he became a close student of the late Rabbi Eliyahu Mishkovsky ztz"l). He also studied at Beth Midrash Govoha in Lakewood and in Gateshead, England. He received semicha (rabbinical ordination) from the famed rav of Gateshead, Rabbi Betzalel Rakow ztz"l, Rabbi Yitzchak Kolitz ztz"l (chief rabbi of Jerusalem) and Rabbi Dovid Povarsky ztz"l rosh yeshiva of the Ponevezh yeshiva, Bnei Brak. Rabbi Ben-Porat especially spent time with Rabbi Rakow learning the practical and theoretical issues involved in the legal sale of chometz ("shimush").
